Senior Research Associate: Education Division

Social Policy Research Associates (SPR) is a nationally renowned and dynamic research, evaluation, and technical assistance services firm with expertise in the areas of philanthropy, youth development, education, health, workforce development, employment training, and other human service programs.  We are currently seeking applications for a highly qualified, full-time senior researcher for our Education Division.  Hired candidates will help build and research/evaluate a portfolio of projects focused on education policy/initiatives/programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Preferred Ph.D. in education, sociology, public policy, or a related field with content area expertise in education policy or reform; or graduate-level degree in education or public policy with a minimum of 5 years’ experience conducting applied research/ evaluation in education policy or reform
  • Demonstrated experience designing and carrying out evaluations using a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods (i.e., interviews, focus groups, ethnographies, site visits, surveys, network analysis, and experience using quantitative methods)
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing project resources and timelines, and client relations
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing teams of people
  • Excellent oral and communications skills, with emphasis on a track record of producing high-quality written products that skillfully presents critical analysis, lessons, and strategic recommendations to clients.

Additional Desired Qualifications

The following are highly desired qualifications in a prospective candidate:

  • Experience with training, facilitation or technical assistance, via in-person trainings, online learning, and individualized coaching
  • Track record for developing and winning contract research proposals
  • Organizational leadership experience
  • Ability to lead business development efforts in a new or related SPR content area

Job Description

  • Specific responsibilities will depend on qualifications, but may include a mix of the following:
  • Manage projects and project teams within the Education Division
  • Design and conduct applied research on education policy and reform as part of a team, utilizing mixed methods such as surveys, administrative or extant data, interviews, and/or site visits
  • Analyze data from multiple data sources and prepare evaluation reports for government, non-profit, and philanthropic clients
  • Participate in, or lead, proposal writing and business development
  • Facilitation of learning communities or meetings, based on evaluation findings and lessons learned.
  • Writing and dissemination of case studies, learning papers, and reports.
  • Blog writing, presentation of findings at client briefings and/or conferences
  • Position will require travel and significant computer-related work
